Cape Stockton Heath – Cackles in the Cape.

Hello!

First things first, I would like to announce that Party Princess is expanding! You can now find my blogs on AllAbroadUK and Visityourlocal. Very exicting.

The nights have been getting darker, wetter, colder and overall down right depressing. It got  to the point last week where I declared “Enough is enough, I’m bored of the winter blues, I need some laughs and a glass wine”  A few hours later a very interesting email popped up in my inbox entitled “Comedy night at Cape Bar, Stockton Heath” 3 hours of comedy performed by 4 regulars from  Manchester premier comedy club The Frog and Bucket. Not only that but it was all in aid of Macmillan Cancer Support. Can’t turn down an offer like that really can I?

Stockton Heath is a cute little town sat closely to Warrington (Nearest train station was Warrington Bank Quay). Very cosy bar, smaller than the other “Cape” bars I’ve been to in the past but had a great warm atmosphere to it. I can say with absolute certainty that the staff were some the of the most attentive, welcoming and fun loving group of people I have witnessed in a pub. The Manager – Mike is a lovely chap and his friendliness and humour really wears off on his staff. Three cheers to him.

Katie Mulgrew - Ex teacher turned funny lass.

8pm rolled around and the comedy acts started arriving. The MC for the night was ex supply teacher Katie Mulgrew, described as “The fairy at the top of the tree” and set the mood and tone of the night. If her opening act was anything to go by, I was in for a great night!

Next up we met Mike Newall and Will Duggan – Both shared their views on life, relationships and current events.

Finally, the cherry on the top was the fabulous Mickey D an Australian born comedian with a unique blend of satire and dark humour and shared his views on living in England and gave us all a lesson on how to deal with drunken hecklers. There always one crowd who think the comedian is there simply to perform to them and them alone.

The night was a huge success for Macmillan cancer support and was a great cure for my winter blues. Would really recommend anyone in the Warrington area to check out Cape and next time in Manchester I will popping into the Frog and bucket if the 4 acts were anything to go by and would return to Cape in a heart beat!

Andy Parsons @ The Pembroke Castle

Hey, its me again.

I kept my word and re-visited the Pembroke Castle last weekend for the Hampstead Comedy club. Three brilliant comedians brought us to tears. Including BBC2’s Mock The Week star Andy Parsons. He really stole the limelight and he really was fab. His comedic spin on current events and politics was brilliant.

I spoke to Andy after the show and asked why he likes coming to the Hampstead Comedy Club.

‘I still love turning up at some of the passionately-run smaller clubs, and Hampstead is among my favourites. Tonight was a typical Hampstead night – very friendly atmosphere and a comedy-savvy crowd. I shall certainly be trying to persuade them to let me back soon.’ –Andy Parsons

The Hampstead Comedy Club hosts a weekly show at The Pembroke Castle in Chalk Farm/Primrose hill every Saturday night.

On Friday, Time Out’ magazine published its top ten list of London Comedy venues included Hampstead Comedy Club! how awesome is that!  They have been running For over 18 years and should really proud of this fab accolade.

Pembroke Castle

I went to the Pembroke Castle – Primrose Hill the other day for a spot of lunch with some friends.  The bar itself is just up from Chalk Farm tube station so it was super easy to find (and considering I’d get lost in a paper bag means it must be REALLY easy to find!!)

The inside of the bar is really welcoming and had a cute eclectic feel about it. On the walls were lots of little framed postcards of local shops, road signs and funky little bits of graffiti. They had good taste in music as well, bit of old indie songs like The Libertines, Blur mixed with
more recent stuff like Ed Sheeran. Massive thumbs from me on that front. On all the tables were pots of basil, and even though that might sound weird, it looked really cool and I’ve since taken the idea and stuck a wrapped pot of basil on my kitchen table.

Seeing as it was sunny – Yes I said sunny, can you believe it a whole afternoon without rain or hurricanes!!! –   We sat outside in the beer garden which was really cute with fairy lights and cushion, very boo hoo, bang on. If only it was July again, a jug of Pimm’s or a Gin and tonic would have been just the ticket.

Actually choosing something for lunch was a bit of a mission. Both of us were in the mood for pizza but couldn’t pick one, goats
cheese and red onion, peri peri chicken or pepperoni. Dilemma.  In the end we shared a peri peri chicken pizza and the goat’s cheese and red onion pizza. Both were so so yummy, I didn’t really want to share the red onion one, it was far too good. Much too good to share with friends. Tee hee!

The bar seemed really well stocked, there looked to be something for everyone, beer, ale, cocktails for the eve, spirits. If only my flat was this well stocked, I’d never have to leave.

I noticed there was an upstairs meeting room which would be good to rent out for parties. They actually hold comedy nights up there every now and again, would be fun to go to one in the future I think. The staff were really friendly and seemed to enjoy their job. I hate grumpy barmaids.

Heading up to Stirling this week for a beach party, Beach parties shouldn’t exist in Scotland, I’m going to freeze my butt off. Is it ok
to wear scarves and Ugg boots with a sundress? Ill rock it anyway!!

Food and service:  Scrummy, I’d return just for the pizza. The staff were lovely.

Atmosphere and decoration:  Really chilled loved the fresh flowers around the bar.

Facilities:  Loved the retro bottle green tiles

Talent Radar:  Slim pickings. 😦

Fun Factor: Wasn’t a heart pumping night out but Pembroke was very relaxing,
just what I needed

Perfect for: General hang out, lunch date, pre-bar drinks
